Leaf Abstraction

20" x 10"

It's been a whole year since I put a brush or palette knife to raw silk and did a painting. At first I just didn't know what subjects I wanted to paint any more and then I didn't know what brushes to use, so I took some time to decide. I am starting 2011 with a series of Hobblebush plants of the Viburnum family, native to unspoiled places in NH. I love the big heart-shaped leaves that can be any color of the spectrum in fall with interesting coloring in geometric shapes and on this one bold veining. The big leaves are full of texture and catch the light just beautifully, so I hope you enjoy my passionate portrayal of my favorite leaves.
